BOOK NOOK REVIEWS: Eileen Spinelli

Title: Thankful
Author: Eileen Spinelli
Illustrator: Archie Preston
Publisher: Zonderkidz
Ages: 4-8

Synopsis:
Like the gardener,
Thankful for every green sprout,
And the fireman,
For putting the fire out,
There are everyday blessings,
You don't need to look far,
To know at a glance,
How special you are.

Why maybe you should read it:
With the holidays just around the corner, I was eager to read this book. While the theme of Ms. Spinelli's story was obvious to me, I quite enjoyed how she carried the idea out. From common laborers to first responders to the sailor on the sea, there are so many people to be thankful for in the world and this author reminds us everyone has value.
Young readers will also enjoy the delightful artwork accompanying this story. To me, Illustrator Archie Preston's work is reminiscent of the classic art of Shel Silverstein and brings a added richness to an already rich story line. Definitely a wonderful addition to any home or school library.
