ABC'S OF READING & 'RITING: LETTER M

Merlin (Don Crosby) by Douglas Baulch 1963.JPG

If I were to ask you to name a well known book series containing magic, what name would come to mind? The first of the Harry Potter books came out in 1997 with the final book being published in 2007. Here are some statistics on Ms. Rowling's books:

450 million: Number of Potter books sold worldwide
73: Languages in which books are available
71: Number of times Rowling has held the No. 1 spot on USA TODAY's Best-Selling Books list
8: Movies based on the seven-book series
$7.7 billion: Worldwide box office of the Potter films

If you've read all the Harry Potter books but still have a hankering for stories with magic in it then take a chance on these lovely books...

1. THE NIGHT CIRCUS by Erin Morgenstern...Celia and Marco are magicians in training as part of the Circus of Dreams. The two find themselves pitted against each other in a dark competition.

2. THE BLUE SWORD by Robert McKinley...In this book, Harry is a girl with magical powers helping her wield a mystical sword once used by a legendary war heroine, Lady Aerin.

3. THE SECRET OF PLATFORM 13 by Eva Ibbotson...This story has all the things found in the HP books...portals into another world, magic, humor, and other worlds.

I love reading all kinds of books and write in many different genres. I think ALL books are magical...not just the ones with magic as part of their story line...;~)

Blurb: Addie comes from a long line of readers or "story catchers" as her family likes to call themselves. Every time Addie tries to catch a story on her own the wiggly words play tricks on her. She tries different ways to make those words sit still but it will take a little faith for Addie to become the next STORY CATCHER.
