This & That

To Hell With My Diet
by: Janet Lavergne

To hell with my diet
and attempts to lose weight.
Wouldn't you disagree
with numbering everything you ate?

Up with chocolate bars
and down with all vegetables.
I'll eat that spaghetti
til I can't get up from the table.

Duncan Hines, Sara Lee,
Dolly Madison, Pepperidge Farm;
Aunt Jermima's pancakes
with maple syrup would do no harm.

Give me meat and potatoes
and all the ice cream I can find.
To hell with my diet!
I'm just expanding my mind.

  1. I could have written a book like that. I live the story daily :)

    1. When I wrote that poem, I was NOT overweight, or on a diet. I can NOT say so today!

    2. Hi Karen! My sister has always had a quirky sense of humor...probably one of the reasons we get along so well...;~)

Thanks for stopping by and come back any time!

  2. I like all of the quotes because they are all true. Donna, think of all the times when we only had books for entertainment and comfort. Then remove those books. Would we have lived through any of it? Your house and car would have been neater if your son didn't have a book in every room and a couple of them in your car. And how dull would your lives have been? i have 12 books on my couch right now. The bookshelves are full.
I used to be afraid that libraries would run out of books for me to read. Thank goodness for new writers.

    1. You are so right, Janet. Growing up, books protected me from dealing with situations I would have rather not been in. They were my escape routes, my magic carpet rides and my life line to take me away from my childhood. I picked up 32 two picture books just the other day...thinking I would read one a day for the month of October...how silly of me to think I could pace myself like that! I have already read them all and need to go back to the library next week for more! ;~)

  3. Those quotes are great. And SO true. I can't imagine how different my life would've been if I wasn't a reader. MUCH worse I'm sure. I feel like books shaped most of my childhood--probably more than anything else. It's no wonder I grew up to write stories!

    1. Hi Tamara! I feel the same way. I just don't understand when someone tells me they don't like to read...it boggles my mind...

And I love those quotes about the importance of reading, especially introducing it at an early age.
