If I were to poll 100 random people, it would be safe to say that probably at least 95 of them suffer from this condition. It does not discriminate. My son was not born with it, but I was. No matter your age, gender, nationality or social standing, you can one day find yourself battling this condition and you might not have ever known you had it. Contests are not won because of this, mountains are not climbed, and visions not realized due to this problem. What is this hideous demon affecting so many people? Kakorrhaphiophobia...the fear of failure...and most writers do battle with it at some time in their career. Don't let this happen to you! Take a chance...what's the worse that can happen anyway? It's not like the firing squad is still used these days...right???

"Fear of failure' that's a big one.
ReplyDeleteHi and welcome to my blog! I love, love, LOVE your background picture for your blog! And I agree...fear of failure is a big one...almost as big as the technical name for it...lol...
DeleteThanks for stopping by and come back any time!
OOOH! Fabulous! Do not be afraid! Go after your dreams. I do believe that so many people have it though. Kind of sad but understandable. I'm working past mine. No more being afraid of failure!
ReplyDeleteHi Leigh! Mine is actually more a "fear of success"...like I wouldn't actually believe it when it happens maybe? Lol...
DeleteThanks for stopping by and come back any time!
Fear of failure is arresting for sure. I suffer from it.
ReplyDeleteBloghopping. Thanks for the post.
Von L
The Growing Writer
Hi Von and welcome to my blog! Thanks for becoming a follower and maybe this is the year when you show the fear demon who's boss! ;0)
DeleteThanks for stopping by and come back any time!
Is it fear of failure of not being good enough?
ReplyDeleteYes, that is what I hear mostly from writers and authors these days...the expectations of what is considered "good" writing puts a lot of pressure on some people and they give up before they even their work a chance. I look at things differently..."rejections" are a chance for me to learn and grow as a writer so I say BRING IT ON! ;0)
DeleteThanks for stopping by and come back any time!
I wonder what the term for the opposite (fear of success) is? I guess I could have Googled it myself... but then I wouldn't have taken time to comment! See what you would have missed out on! I'm so brilliant and everything! Sheesh!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, nice word! No reason to fear this post failing -- I'd say it was quite the success!
Dave the Goof
Hi, David, and welcome to my blog! My initial research couldn't uncover a medical term for "fear of success" although that is probably what I deal with more often than the fear of failure. I know my own strengths...I sometimes don't think OTHER people will realize it so I'm not sure how I'm going to react when I DO succeed with my writing...lol...
DeleteThanks for stopping by and come back any time!
Now that is a word and a half! I'd never heard of it before, but, boy, do I suffer from it big time. I did a blog post about it earlier in the year because it's really halting my progress on my rewrite of my WIP. Wish I'd known the term for it when I wrote the post, but glad to know it now (although I'll never be able to spell it without looking it up!).
ReplyDeleteWishing you continued success with the A to Z challenge,
Jocelyn
Hi, Jocelyn, and welcome to my blog! I agree, I will never be able to spell that one from memory...lol...I find that a good critique group and a strong base of supportive friends/colleagues helps me stay on track with my writing and if you have those resources in place, you will be fine! ;0)
DeleteThanks for stopping by and come back any time!
Good post. I try not to think about whether I'll succeed or fail (because I know which one i'd obsess about). Just keep tapping away at the keyboard.

Moody Writing
I agree that writers need to keep writing...every day...the more we write, the more we get comfortable at it and if we are open to the supportive critiques of those who only want to see us succeed, then the sky is the limit! ;0)
DeleteThanks for stopping by and come back any time!
Great post, and it's so true! Some people would rather not try, just in case they fail. I'm guilty of that sometimes! :)
ReplyDeleteHi and welcome to my blog! I actually am more concerned with being successful rather than failing so I would like a chance to see how I would handle SUCCESS so that I can overcome that fear...lol...

Rejection letters don't bug me like they used to. I've finally gotten it through my head that it's the work that they're rejecting (for whatever reason) and not me as a writer (or a human being). Besides, one piece that was rejected was accepted somewhere else. So, I just keep plugging away. On a side note, I've found that a rejection email is far less intimidating than the ones I got in the old dinosaur days, typed on paper. The email goes away with a button - poof - like it never existed. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI sent out my first submission ever in March of last year...I was so ignorant then about the actual "craft" of writing...and of course it was rejected. The fact that I received no response at all was an easy rejection for me and when I went back to that piece of work AFTER I had spent many months actually learning HOW to write more professionally I quickly realized that if I was an editor, I wouldn't have chosen my story either! Better luck next time...;0

Great post! Stopping by from the A-Z Challenge!
ReplyDeleteHi Anglers and welcome to my blog! I'm glad you like today's post and good luck in the challenge!
DeleteThanks for stopping by and come back any time!
You have got to be kidding me? I chose and posted this word back in early March for this challenge. I can't believe two of us settled on this particular word. How great is that?
ReplyDeleteHi, Gregg, and welcome to my blog! I think it was a chance in a million that we both picked the same word...or an indication that we are BOTH that brilliant...;0)
DeleteThanks for stopping by and come back any time!
I totally suffer from that too! But it's getting better! Great word! :)
ReplyDeleteHi, Cat, and welcome to my blog! I'm glad you liked the word!
DeleteThanks for stopping by and come back any time!
Hey Donna! Your FB and/or email accounts were hacked. They say you're stuck in the Philippines! LOL
ReplyDeleteYeah, Tara...it's been a nightmare this morning as I was literally typed on top of the idiot typing...I even had one of my TKD parents come to the school just to make sure I was okay! I've changed my passwords and sent out as many messages as I was able to but the hacker DELETED 200+ contact email addresses and now I have NO WAY to contact individuals except through FB pages...;0(...I'm crossing my fingers that yahoo customer service can get me my email contacts back as it was friends, family, TKD and writing contacts...;0(...
DeleteThanks for letting me know!
yes it is a hazard but we never know do we---until--great post!
ReplyDeleteHi, Lynn, and welcome to my blog! I think it's all a mindset and I refuse to let a fear hold me back from my dreams...but that's just me...;0)
DeleteThank you for stopping by and come back any time!
I would go so far as to say that 100% of the population suffers from this condition at some point or another. Am loving your take on A-Z!
ReplyDeleteHi, Julie...I'm glad you like my theme...I aim to please...;0)
DeleteThanks for stopping by and come back any time!
oh dear God in Heaven above...this is me through and through! UGH! The name sounds so sophisticated though! great K word!
ReplyDeleteLol, Tracy...it's okay...apparently you are in GREAT company! ;0)
DeleteThanks for stopping by and come back any time!
Oh wow - I didn't even realise what that was. I suffer from this too!
ReplyDeleteJust doing some A-Z blog hopping. Good to meet you :)
Hi and welcome to my blog! I deal more with "fear of success" and I have yet to find the scientific word for THAT...lol...
DeleteThanks for stopping by and come back any time!
I've got it bad. What's the cure? Is there therapy? Medication?
ReplyDeleteHappy A to Z,
Lucy
Hi, Lucy, and welcome to my blog! What's the cure? A happy, healthy dose of writing every day...therapy? Writing critiques and this lovely writing community! ;0)
DeleteThanks for stopping by and come back any time!
DONNA'S FACEBOOK AND YAHOO ACCOUNTS HAVE BEEN HACKED. THE HACKER IS SENDING EMAILS TO ALL OF HER CONTACTS SAYING SHE IS IN THE PHILIPINES AND NEEDS MONEY SENT TO HER. DONNA IS IN TENNESSEE AND IS FINE. EXCEPT THAT SHE CAN'T REACH SOME OF HER AUTHOR FRIENDS TO LET THEM KNOW SHE IS NOT SCAMMING THEM. IT IS THE HACKER.
ReplyDeleteThanks for putting the word out for me, Janet! I think I have gotten through to most people to let them know I haven't been held at gun point and I'm not stuck in a motel with Mr. Hargis, and I don't need any money...well, I could ALWAYS use a winning lottery ticket, but besides THAT, I'm okay...;0)
DeleteBest cure for this phobia? Try harder!
ReplyDeleteHi, Sean, and welcome to my blog! I totally agree...lol...
DeleteThanks for stopping by and come back any time!
Wow, never knew it had that term. :)
ReplyDeleteHi, Nicole...lol...neither did I!
DeleteThanks for stopping by and come back any time!
Hello!
ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting on my blog!
I may have this phobia D:! But then, I think failure scares the hell out of many people... If it didn't, we would be psicopats?! XDDD
Nice blog, btw!
Hi, ReAkemiH, and welcome to my blog! Thank you for your kind words...I worked very hard on this blog...;0)
DeleteThanks for stopping by and come back any time!
Who knew we could suffer from something we didn't even know the name of? Cool post and nice blog!
ReplyDeleteHi, Julie, and welcome to my blog! I never knew the name of this until today1 ;0) Thanks for your kind words!
DeleteThanks for stopping by and come back any time!
I knew it! I knew I was ill...nobody listens to me...oh, it's fear. sorry.
ReplyDeleteLol...Susan...too funny! Hope you get to "feeling" better soon...;0)
DeleteThanks for stopping by and come back any time!
Oh is *that* what it's called? Actually, I suffer more from this-book-sucks-and-I'll-never-finish-editing syndrome...
ReplyDeleteLove your A-Z theme!
Hi, Deniz, and welcome to my blog! I think I suffer from that syndrome sometimes as well...lol...
DeleteThanks for stopping by and come back any time!
Hi, and welcome to my blog! I hope you enjoyed today's post1
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by and come back any time!
That is definitely a new word for me! And I agree, it's not so much the fear of failure but the fear of actually doing well and getting what I want!
ReplyDeleteHi, Adrianne, and welcome to my blog! As much as I wonder about my fear of success, I'm still willing to see how I would deal with a winning lottery ticket...;0)
DeleteThanks for stopping by and come back any time!
Interesting word, but I can't think of how to use it yet.
ReplyDeleteAs for the cow question: I wouldn't kiss a cow either, so can't help you there. Thanks for stopping by my blog.
Hi, D.G. and welcome to my blog! I've had the opportunity to kiss different animals in my life, but right now, a cow is not topping that list...lol...
DeleteThanks for stopping by and come back any time!
What a word! Now if only I can remember it.
ReplyDeleteHope you’re enjoying the challenge so far!

Great word. Now if I could only figure out how to pronounce it. I'd love to use it at a social get-together and see what happens. :) I'm enjoying your A-Z entries.
