A to Z: Janizaries

Ode To Janizaries
by: Donna L Martin

Oh where but in the blogosphere
could I find many far and near,
to hang on words or simple deed;
to come and fill my every need?
Where once stood none
now thick like berries,
what would I do
without janizaries?
But should the day come to pass
when janizaries no longer last,
I'll still say thanks and with a tear
hold to me a vision most dear
where once stood many
now gone are berries
which made life sweet;
my janizaries...

  2. Aha. . "a soldier in an elite guard of the Turkish troops organized in the 14th Century and abolished in 1826," which fits in your poem as the a-z Writing Challenge will be over by the end of April.

  12. I read it once and had no clue what it meant. Then I read the comments. You told me not to cheat by looking up the word but I felt that comments were a loophole in this situation. After that, I read the poem again and it makes perfect sense! So sentimental. Nice way to make me want to keep coming back after the A-Z is over! :)
