Ode To Janizaries
by: Donna L Martin
Oh where but in the blogosphere
could I find many far and near,
to hang on words or simple deed;
to come and fill my every need?
Where once stood none
now thick like berries,
what would I do
without janizaries?
But should the day come to pass
when janizaries no longer last,
I'll still say thanks and with a tear
hold to me a vision most dear
where once stood many
now gone are berries
which made life sweet;
my janizaries...

Teaser: Jacob is impatient to do all the things his older siblings can do. But the last straw is when even his new pair of overalls are too big! Will Jacob stay little forever or will Spring bring something more surprising than just flowers?
Are janizaries berries?

Aha. . "a soldier in an elite guard of the Turkish troops organized in the 14th Century and abolished in 1826," which fits in your poem as the a-z Writing Challenge will be over by the end of April.
ReplyDeleteLol...nice try but not the definition that I received for this word...;0)

Ah, the combination of huge words plus great children's books is extremely appealing to this self-proclaimed nerd! I love your theme for the challenge!

I never heard it before. I had to look it up. I love this a-Z as we are constantly learning something new. Keep coming.
ReplyDeleteHi, Manzanita! But I wonder what definition you actually found and does it match mine? :-)
DeleteThanks for stopping by and come back any time!
Well, whaddya know? I always thought "Janizaries" were the months between "Decemberzaries" and Februzaries"...

Hi, Angie, and welcome to my blog! I appreciate your kind words...
DeleteThanks for stopping by and come back any time!
I read it once and had no clue what it meant. Then I read the comments. You told me not to cheat by looking up the word but I felt that comments were a loophole in this situation. After that, I read the poem again and it makes perfect sense! So sentimental. Nice way to make me want to keep coming back after the A-Z is over! :)
ReplyDeleteLol, Sherri, I like how you think! How smart of you to use the comments as clues...;-)...I'm glad you are enjoying the blog!
