A to Z: Deaconing







If you are like me, when you first read that word...deaconing...you probably thought my post would have something with the Catholic church and it's hierarchy.  Well this word CAN mean that, but there is another meaning to the word that actually makes me think of my writing.  Deaconing can also mean putting the best things you have on top of the pile.  Kinda like putting your best foot forward.  Or in my case, my best words whenever I submit a manuscript for possible publication.  How about you?  How much deaconing have YOU done lately?

    Ooo, I definitely went with the Catholic thing.

    Are we talking query letters? Those are SO hard to write. Picking the best words to tell your story in the most concise way. Hook an agent.

      Lol, Kelley, I was wondering how many people I would trap with that double-edged word...;0) I am a newer writer (in a professional sense after 40 years of "playing" at this) so I haven't actually had to write any query letters yet, but yes that would fit into today's word. I have finally finished one of my picture books that is ready for the "query" stage so I'm sure I will get to see what everyone else is talking about when they say "the dreaded query letter"...lol...

    In theory I suppose we should deacon (can it be used as a verb?) everything we do. In reality I'm not sure I prioritise very effectively.

    I did immediately think of the Catholic church when I read "deaconing" but you're right, it's something that can be (has to be?) applied to writing too. I need to do a bit more of it myself, my self-discipline is terrible and I keep getting bogged down with the wrong things. Oops!

    Protestants also have deacons in their churches. I was also thinking of church deacons. Just how ignorant am I? Very, evidently. I won't be if I keep reading your blogs.

    That book sounds like fun. I plan on reading it. When I was a kid, we waited for Mighty Mouse to bring our tooth money. I don't know why, but he was good for a quarter and we didn't complain.

    I stopped believing in the tooth fairy after getting into trouble for putting my grandmother's dentures under my pillow.

      Lol...I should have thought of that one...all I did was try to pull out my baby teeth on my own before my mother could get to me with long nose pliers....;-)
