In the small town where I grew up there was a Catholic church that I had to walk past every day on my way to school. The church had a beautiful campanile (bell tower) and I used to fantasize about it. Maybe I could be Rapunzel or maybe the Hunchback of Notre Dame lived there. Today I could look at that tower and think of my writing. Those bells always made such a lovely sound. Think of your mind as a campanile. Let your stories ring out with the truth of your vision!

Hi, What a lovely word picture...the mind being a campanile and letting the bells ring out thoughts and ideas. Beautiful picture of the tower, too.

Shame we didn't stick with squirrels because the best way to catch them is to climb a tree and act like a nut.
ReplyDeleteI would probably qualify as one, JP...;0)

I think the campanile on my college campus was 50% responsible for why I fell in love with the place as a starry-eyed high school senior!
ReplyDeleteAren't they lovely and so...medieval looking? Brings out the romantic in me...lol

The campanile in your picture stands in St. Mark's Square in Venice, as you undoubtedly know. But did you know that it came crashing down at the beginning of the twentieth century and was completely rebuilt, using Canaletto's famous paintings as a guide? I once climbed to the top, but I was foolish and did so at five minutes 'til noon. I heard those bells ringing in my ears for days afterwards.
ReplyDeleteI actually didn't know where this picture originated...small world that I picked a place YOU actually have visited! Sorry about the "ringing" in your ears...;0)...what a fabulous story you could tell about that adventure!
