A To Z Challenge: BOOK NOOK REVIEWS "I"

Title: Interrupting Chicken
Author/Illustrator: David Ezra Stein
Publisher: Candlewick Press

Ages: 4-8

"It was bedtime for the little red chicken.
'Okay, my little chicken,' said Papa. 'Are you all ready to go to sleep?'
'Yes, Papa! But you forgot something.'
'What's that?' asked Papa.
'A bedtime story!'"

Synopsis: Little red chicken can't fall asleep without Papa reading him a bedtime story. But every time Papa starts a story, little red chicken keeps interrupting. Finally Papa runs out of bedtime stories and invites little red chicken to tell him a bedtime story...with surprising results!

Why I liked it: Mr. Stein weaves a delightful tale of what many a parent goes through while trying to put energetic little ones to bed. In the excitement of reading a bedtime story many youngsters interrupt to show they know how the story ends. But it's amusing to find Papa interrupts little red chicken's bedtime story in his own special way.
