Title: Why Are You Fighting, Davy?
Author: Brigitte Weninger
Illustrator: Eve Tharlet
Publisher: North-South Books
Ages: 4-8
"It was a hot summer's day. Davy and his friend Eddie were
playing by the brook.
'Let's build a dam,' Eddie suggested.
I don't know how,' said Davy.
'Leave it to me!' said Eddie, 'I build the best dams in the world.'
'all right,' said Davy. 'You build the dam and I'll make a boat.
I build the best boats in the world.'
They both set to work."
Synopsis: Davy and Eddie are best friends but when they decide one summer day to build a dam so they can float a toy boat, things don't turn out the way they'd hoped and a friendship is in danger of sinking fast!
Why I liked it: Ms. Wenniger spotlights a universal theme when two best friends argue over something silly as a runaway boat and a broken dam. Illustrations by Ms. Tharlet help convey the story's emotional outburst as well as the sadness Davy and Eddie feel when they discover they actually miss each other's company. A wonderful ending awaits when the two best friends discovers compromising and teamwork helps strengthen their friendship.
Nice take on the friendship theme. Sounds cute.

I love that you are doing children's books - you did this last you, too, if I recall correctly. Sure wish I knew of your blog when my kids were little! I didn't do A2Z myself this year, but am enjoying getting in on the fun a bit!
ReplyDeleteHi Cindy! My "baby" is 25 and I STILL love reading children's books. I read to my summer camp kids 3 or 4 books every day...by the end of summer we have gone through 220 books!
