Writerly Wisdom From Janet Reid, Literary Agent

As a new writer, I realize I have much to learn about the writing world.  I want to make sure I have the best chance of working any opportunities coming my way, so I read a lot of blog posts.  One of my favorite bloggers is Janet Reid.  I like Janet's funny, straight-to-the-point posts on the writing industry.  Her blog gives me an insider's view of the other side of publishing and I know I can't go wrong if I follow her writerly advice.

Here are some of Janet's posts from her blog, http://jetreidliterary.blogspot.com,  that I think no beginner writer or even an established one should be without...

I strive to be the best writer I can be and that means following the writerly wisdom of others.  With bogs like Janet Reid's and others, I infuse my own writing with the skills necessary to one day be the type of writer agents like her are looking for.  Until then, I will continue to read Janet's blog and be one of her faithful followers.  I bow to her expertise and if I am lucky, one day I will find a way to show my appreciation for all she does for the writing industry.  If Janet is anything like me, flowers or chocolate will do just nicely...

  1. Funny, I have just come from a work conference and the talk of changes to come within in our industry, for us next year. To be prepared, to show what we are made of, to be ready for the best roles. This scroll from Janet Reid would have been perfect. Loved the links, will check them out later. Thanks Donna!

    1. Hi Diane! I must clarify that that scroll did NOT come from Janet Reid...I just added it to the post...but please do check out her blog. Even though she does not work in our genre, I LOVE her posts and have bookmarked many to refer to later...;~)

Thanks for stopping by and come back any time!

  2. I finished my first book a few months ago and self published it because I wanted my first book to be published before I turned 25 (two weeks ago) Now that it is out there, I still have a lot to do and to learn but not easy to know in which direction to go when my only passion is writing, not marketing and public relations. Thanks for sharing the links. Will check them out tomorrow.

    1. Hi Emily and welcome to my blog! Congrats on your first book. Whenever a writer decides to self publish, they sometimes don't realize all the additional "behind the scenes" work involved and the many hats they have to wear to give their book a fighting chance in the marketplace. There are many great books out there on how to self-publish and tips on all the other areas you will now need to be familiar with. Good luck!

    1. Hi Jarm! Janet has so many great posts and I find myself laughing at her shark references. She isn't an agent for my type of stories but I still find much wisdom in her advice...;~)

Thanks for stopping by and come back any time!

  5. I follow Janet's blog too - I think it should be required reading for anyone starting to submit for the first time. It would stop us all from making those daft, newbie mistakes.

    1. Hi Annalisa! I don't remember how I stumbled across Janet's blog (maybe through another writer friend?) but I still get a lot of useful information from her posts...even though she doesn't represent the genres I write in...;~)

Thanks for stopping by and come back any time!
