Oh Nessie, My Nessie

I have always had a soft spot in my heart for Nessie.  Maybe it comes from the fact I'm part Scottish.  Maybe I'm enthralled with the mystery surrounding the whole idea of an ancient creature living out their life in a Scottish lake.  Or maybe I just think this is a cute picture and want to know more about the Loch Ness Monster:

1.  Some records show the first recorded sighting of Nessie was in 565 AD by Saint Columba.

2.  Experts believe that Nessie must not be a mammal because the animal doesn't need to breathe air to survive.

3.  Nessie is probably the most famous cryptid in the world.  Cryptids is another name for animals which MIGHT exist and has some form of folklore tales or "sightings" evidence to back the idea they are real.

4.  In 1976, Nessie hunters attempted to lure the beast into showing itself by throwing bacon from a hot air balloon into the loch below.  Unfortunately it did not entice Nessie to show itself.

5.  More than 4000 people have said they saw Nessie.

6.  Did you know Nessie has a cousin named the Ogopogo and is said to live in the Okanagan Lake in British Columbia, Canada?

7.  If Nessie really exists, it is said to be elephant grey in color, weighs about 2500 pounds, and is probably up to be 40 feet long.

  1. I hope she exists, what fun to make that discovery. Of course as long as no one does anything to change her habitat!

    1. Hi Yolanda! That's just it...if Nesse does exist, there will always be someone out there eager to exploit the situation. Far better to remain a mystery I think...

Thanks for stopping by and come back any time!

  2. They say that Loch Ness is so deep it's impossible to check all along the bottom of it, so I reckon Nessie exists right down there in the mud. I hope she does anyway. I didn't know about her cousin in Canada - does she get sighted too?

    1. Hi Susan! I don't know about the cousin, the info just came up in my research on Loch Ness...maybe I should do a follow up post on Cousing Ogopogo...;~)

  4. We had a kids' cartoon show in the UK called "The Family Ness". I like to think of there being a whole clan down there. :)

  5. It wouldn't surprise me if Nessie is real, but it would be awesome to prove Nessie really existed. At the same time, proving it just sort of dulls the thrill of it all lol!

    1. Hi Angela! I think I would rather Nessie remain a mystery. If the world were to find out that creature was real, there would be fame and fortune hunters coming out of the woodwork to hunt her down...kinda like the paparazzi now with other "celebrities"...I say let Nessie live in peace...
