Change Can Be Good

Some people don't like change.  It can take time that they don't have to make those changes happen.  Or maybe the change is a life altering one and it takes time to adjust to the idea.  Sometimes people just refuse to accept changes because they like the way things are.  Some changes can even be small and still be scary.  But even a small change can sometimes make a big difference in someone's life.

I waited a long time for a small change to come into my life.  Three years into my wait, I was nervously eager for that small change to happen.  Then a major setback occurred and I ended up waiting another two long years just wondering if that change would ever arrive.  Finally in October of 2011 a small change happened that I was beginning to doubt would ever occur.  Such a small change...just one little gold bar added to the others...but what a difference in the realms of possibilities that small change made in my life.

In June of last year, another change happened.  It literally turned my world up on it's side as I struggled to adjust to the new change in my life.  After a year of working hard to make this change a positive thing in my life, I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.  Hopefully soon my world will be turned right side up again and this change will be a reminder that some changes are for the good.

Writing is like that.  This is the age of change and the writing industry is going through many changes, both large and small; so much so that many people are wondering where will all this change take us?  How far into the future or will these changes actually set us back?    It's scary sometimes to have faith that change will be good, but if change is coming anyway, don't you think how we deal with those changes are just as important as the change itself?  We can either accept the changes that come along and make the best of them or we can refuse to acknowledge changes are coming and be left behind to wonder what happened?  The choice is ours...

  1. Very true. Change can be scary! Especially in a craft you care so much about! And especially when you have dreamed of success in that area since a child! So changing that is tough. But good things can come about from change even though it's tough!

    1. Hi Nicole! I agree...I'm just glad I am open to the possibilities out there. If I would have returned to my writing with the mindset I had from 20 years ago and the expectations from back then, I wonder how many opportunities I would have maybe overlooked?

Thanks for stopping by and come back any time!

  2. I completely agree that change is what you make of it, but sometimes adapting to change takes a lot of strength and a lot of time!

    1. Hi Susanna! I have been told so many times that I have the patience of JOB...I'm hoping that really is the case since it looks like I'm going to need it to be able to survive all the changes heading my way in this writing world I now live in...;0)

  3. So true. It's not so much the change as how we deal with the change. That makes all the difference!

    1. Hi Genevieve! I'm always been both a patient person as well as one with an extreme positive outlook so I can only have faith that I will survive these upcoming changes in order to find my place in the writing community.

  4. Hi Donna! Thanks so much for coming by my blog, I'm so glad to have found yours as a result! And, you are so right about change. For a long time I feared it and felt stuck in a rut, but when I finally found the courage to start making small changes I couldn't believe the difference in my life. But then sometimes changes you aren't expecting some along, and the challenge is to learn to roll with them, too. Great post!

    1. Hi Julie and welcome to my blog! Thanks for your kind words..I firmly believe if we want to be a successful writer in this industry today (and YOUR definition of success may be different from MINE) then we have no choice but to learn to adapt to change as quickly as we can...all while being smart enough to know when to let that wave of change pass us by if it's really NOT for us...;0)

Thanks for stopping by and come back any time!

  5. Dunno about this 'change' lark. I'm sorta of the opinion it's up to the world to change not me :P

    1. Lol...JP, so did my son for 23years until he realized that if he wanted to get paid regularly at a job he really wants then he was going to have to make small changes in order to "play well with others"...;-)

  6. I'm not real good with change, even when the change itself is positive. I do try though, occasionally.

    1. Hi Carol and welcome to my blog! Most of the time people are more unnerved by the thought of change than they really need to be...myself included...and then we laugh with relief when we realize it wasn't as scary as we thought it was going to be...;0)

Thanks for stopping by and come back any time!
