A to Z: Nuncupate

When I was younger, I tried many artistic endeavors.  I tried to spread my wings.  I dabbled at drawing with some success.  I wrote poetry as an outlet for my feelings.  I even tried to write simple stories.  But my confidence was that of a child, and I let others dictate what I should believe concerning my writing. When people made fun of my drawings, I set them aside.  When others laughed at my poetry, I put my pen down.  And when I was told I wasn't good enough to write, I stopped listening to the voices inside me.  Everything lay dormant for more than twenty years.

That all changed this past year. I have come back to life and found my voice again.  I also discovered a new word...nuncupate...it means to utter a vow or declare verbally.  That certainly feels like what I am doing.  I happily declare to the world that I am a WRITER!  And while I write to please myself these days,  there is always that hope inside me that my words will one day touch the lives of others and help inspire them to keep their own dreams alive. What would YOU nuncupate if you could?

  4. It's a shame when young people lose self-confidence for really no reason. It takes time to learn these lessons and I'm so glad to see you have. The book looks like a lot of fun. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I will follow yours now.

  5. I should have been able to nuncupate to others who nuncupated to ME that I couldn't write. A high school English teacher almost accused me of plagiarism. That was a clue that I COULD write. I kept my written words hidden from everyone but my sister. I'm nuncupating now.

    1. I does not matter how old you are, Janet, when you realize you should never believe in the negativity others may throw you way...just so you realize that ANYONE can become a writer if they want it strong enough!

  7. I wouldn't bother nuncupating. I have long since realised it is pointless me trying to gain a sense of direction in my life because destiny and my plans seldom agree. Now I just hang on for dear life and try to enjoy the ride.

    1. Awww, JP, we ALWAYS have a choice...it may only be whether we will take another breath or go down fighting but the choice is still ours. Despite all the adventures of my life I have never given up my hope...I may have to deal with some things I would have wished never been dealt to me, but the choice on how I carry myself through the situation is still mine to make..

I'll get off my soapbox now...;0)

  8. Very encouraging. I've tried many artistic endeavors (some have been money makers)but that voice talked me out of continuing them. Now I'm throwing caution to the wind and every time that voice starts I work that much harder at what I'm creating at the moment. During this challenge that voice has tried to stop me but I'm over half-way through going full throttle.

  11. Great, powerful post. Cheering you on!

One day, I hope I can find my own inner nunciate and likewise solemnly declare myself all those creative things I, too, was persuaded not to be.

    1. Awwww, Sadie, all it really takes is an ounce of courage to tell yourself that you are worth it! Believe me, I know it can be hard when you are drowning in negativity, but even just the smallest poem or tiniest drawing will do wonders to uplift your spirit and give you the courage to try more...;0)
