I think my writing career has given me the perfect opportunity to cross train for another career I've always wanted to try my hand at. I wanna join the circus! I can sit as patiently as any elephant...believe me I know because I sit a lot. Waiting for an idea to come. Wondering if today is the day my muse will create a masterpiece. Watching the mailbox and hoping today there will be an acceptance letter in the mail for me.
Maybe they would have a place for me as a balancing act? I'm pretty good at juggling a full time job, home life, a budding writing career, and maybe a little ME time so I'm sure I could do her job!
And if it's jumping through hoops they need me to do...I'm there! I'm already jumping through them as I make sure I've dotted all my I's and crossed all my T's whenever I submit another story to someone. I might have to learn how to do it without catching my tail on fire, though.
The circus can be an exciting career choice. So can writing. I figure it's all what you put into it. I just don't want to end up like him...
No sad clown for you! Only happy clowns. I love thinking of writing like a circus act. All we need is for somebody to buy a ticket.
ReplyDeleteLol, Genevieve...I'll even supply the popcorn and cotton candy! ;~)
DeleteThanks for stopping by and come back any time!
I think maybe I've had it backwards - maybe I'm really supposed to be in the circus! Lord knows my house is like a three-ring circus :)
ReplyDeleteHi Susanna! Lol...I understand completely...until my son moved out, I sometimes felt like I was living in a war zone...;~)

Hmm, I'd rather be a writer, because then I can vicariously experience any number of careers. My current WIP is actually about a circus performer!
ReplyDeleteHi Faith, and welcome to my blog! That's cool that you are writing about a circus performer!

That sounds awesome! I bet going on a circus tour would be as fun and crazy as a book tour!
ReplyDeleteHi Deniz and welcome to my blog! I bet it WOULD be fun to tour with the circus...but i think I will stick with a book tour...;~)

Love the analogy. Always imagined myself balancing on the back of a beautiful Palomino...lol.
ReplyDeleteHi Diane! Yeah, I would probably be the dog and pony show...;~)

Emmit Kelly! (Sad Clown). Loved him. I agree that you COULD be in a circus. But I think you'd be the Ringmaster.
ReplyDeleteHi Janet! Yeah, I'd look good in a tails and a top hat, wouldn't I? Lol...

Hi Donna .. we've had such wonderful talent displayed for us during the Opening and Closing Ceremonies .. and today in central London - they've got a circus day going on - should be amazing - across all our landmark sites ...
ReplyDeleteGreat idea about the circus though .. cheers Hilary
Hi Hilary! I hope you enjoyed the circus...I used to love going to the Barnum and Bailey circus when it would come to my city...

LOVE the analogy!
ReplyDeleteHi Erik! Thank you...I try...'~)

Maybe that's why writing is such a great fit for me...I performed in the circus for several years. Really.
ReplyDeleteHi Alison! Really??? What did you do? Please tell...;~)

Center ring performer. I was primarily a juggler and unicycler, but also performed stiltwalking, high wire, rolling globe, and double trapeze. It was a loong time ago. Almost 30 years.
DeleteTHAT is amazing! I am now dutifully impressed with your performance ability! ;~)

I've vicariously loved reading your blog posts all summer!
ReplyDeleteI agree about the metaphor of writing and joining the circus. They are rather similar.
Loved all the comments, too. :)
Awww, Clare, you don't need to lurk behind the scenes...you can join in on the fun whenever you want...;~)

Fun analogy! Stopping by from A-Z.
ReplyDeleteHi Donna and welcome to my blog! I LOVED participating in A to Z (you should see some of my posts) and can't wait until next year!
