I have never been much of a gambler. In my mind, one has to have a competitive nature to undertake such a venture and I really don't have a competitive bone in my body. The creative side of my brain balances nicely with the logical side and any risks I might take in my life are usually calculated ones where I don't stand the chance of losing my shirt in the process.
This past year I have decided to "gamble" a little bit with my writing. The mid-size city I live in likes to be known as KNOXVEGAS. I don't know if this is because we are a city of huge risk takers or if we simply know how to have a good time...lol. But with a name like that, I can't help but be encouraged to step out of my comfort zone and take a chance that my writing is good enough for the publishing arena.
I have studied things very carefully and done my homework. I have gauged the odds and will roll the "publishers" dice this year in the hopes of scoring big. The cards may not be stacked entirely in my favor, but I've see enough winners out there to stay hopeful. And you never know...one day I just might hit the jackpot and get my prize in the mail from someone worth gambling on..
Good luck.
ReplyDeleteStephen, I don't even know what made me come up with the idea for this post but it kinda flows, don't you think? ;-)

I know my daughters listen to too much Taylor Swift when I read the title of your post and think, "the water's rough, but this love is ours!" :)
ReplyDeleteBest of luck with your dice rolling! And you know what? You just never know! There is an element of luck involved - having your ms cross the right editor's desk at the right time. You have just as much chance as anyone else! :)
You're right, Susanna! What's in my control is what I write and how I write it. If I do my research and present the strongest case for someone to acquire my work, then I will have no regrets no matter the outcome...
