When I was younger I used to enjoy going to the park and playing on the seesaw with my sister. We were a balancing act, the two of us, as we hung on tight and enjoyed the ride.
For me, life is a balancing act as well. I wear many hats on any given day; martial artist, instructor, program director, mother, sister, writer, friend. The list goes on and on with the challenge being able to keep everything balanced. Sometimes it works and some times it doesn't. On a good day everything flows, my students learn their techniques and my stories continue to grow in the right direction.
Then there are some days when nothing seems to be balanced. When it seems so hard to do the simplest things and the whole world seems to fall apart. Today was one of those days. Today is my birthday and I originally planned to spend the day with my sister having fun. But a severe allergy attack and work obligations got in the way and my balancing act came undone. I eventually got back on track and managed to enjoy some of my day, but it was challenging.
Writing can be like that. The ups and downs of a writer's life can be overwhelming at times and it is how we handle being on the bottom of that seesaw that determines if we will be successful at this life we have chosen.
Sometimes we have to call for help. Let this wonderful writing community support our efforts and with their positive energy we can all work to resume the balance in our lives. There is only one thing we DON'T want to do and that is stay in one place...
