A TO Z CHALLLENGE: LETTER A

Some of the things found in the world today actually have been around for quite some time. Here's a look at some foods that have been around since the 1800's.  Did YOU know when these items were created?

Ash-pone

ASH-PONE: A coarse corn bread baked in ashes,

APPLE BUTTER: Spiced apple juice and pulp, cooked to a buttery consistency.

Blurb: Addie comes from a long line of readers or "story catchers" as her family likes to call themselves. Every time Addie tries to catch a story on her own the wiggly words play tricks on her. She tries different ways to make those words sit still but it will take a little faith for Addie to become the next STORY CATCHER.

  2. I have tried apple butter before- it was made with cinnamon. I had it with cornbread (not coarse corn bread though) and it was quite delicious.

  5. I love apple butter better than jelly-really good on hot, right out of the oven biscuits. The ash pone-never heard of it.

  6. Ash-pone... is it like cornpone, except for being cooked in the ashes? Sounds like a Southern creation...

  9. Uh the Ash Pone kind of looks like frozen raw meat to me. Variety I guess? Apple butter sounds delicious. Wonder how it tastes on toast? I imagine it's heavenly.

  10. Hi, Donna, thanks for the invite! I love apples, but don't care for apple butter or apple sauce. Don't know why? Ash Pone, doesn't look good at all. Hmmm...

    Happy A to Z!
