BOOK NOOK REVIEWS: Margie Palatini

Title: The Cheese

Author: Margie Palayini
Illustrator: Steve Johnson and Lou Fancher

Publisher: Katherine Tegen books

Ages: 4-8

Synopsis:
A rat living in the dell wonders why the posted rules and regulations state that the cheese stands alone—especially when it is a tasty-looking hunk of cheddar standing uselessly in a meadow. Napkin in hand, he goes to investigate.

Why you should read it:
When I was little I used to sing the song, "the farmer in the dell, the farmer in the dell, hi ho the dairy-o, the farmer in the dell." I never even knew what book I had selected until I started reading it to my Taekwondo students and childhood memories came flooding back.
Whether you've sung this song before or hearing it for the first time, this cute story follows different animals and the farmer's family as they try to figure out why a hunk of cheese sits alone down in the meadow. Children will love the surprise ending.
