A To Z Challenge: BOOK NOOK REVIEWS "H"

Title:  Hoot Owl, Master of Disguise
Author: Sean Taylor
Illustrator: Jean Jullien
Publisher:  Candlewick Press
Ages: 4-8

Synopsis:

Hoot Owl is no ordinary owl. He’s a master of disguise! And he will use his skill at camouflaging himself to trick his unsuspecting prey.

Animals of the night, beware!

Why you should read it:

I have a confession. I didn’t select this book because I thought I would like it. In fact I was initially turned off by the dark cover and Owl’s illustration. I needed a book to review beginning with the letter “h” and this one was the only one I could find at my local library.

Now I must admit I’m glad I picked this one. Owl is hilariously determined to grab some supper and his prey keep outsmarting him. I like how Owl looks at the world and I enjoyed how he solved his hunger problem. Younger readers will be amused by Owl’s adventures into the night.

  1. I really appreciate your honesty when speaking about not sure you'd like it because of the cover design. This is a good review as to sharing what's inside, hidden within the pages. :)

    1. Hi Alexandra! This book was definitely NOT the type of children's book I would have picked up. My attention is usually caught by lovely, open illustrations in bright colors and this cover simply doesn't follow any of those angles. But I'm so glad I took the time to look inside because it really is a cute story, especially for young readers...

Thanks for stopping by and come back any time!
