A New Year, A New You!

It's one day away from a new year. One day away from the beginning of all the possibilities a new year brings. So what will you do with YOUR clean slate?

Will you look back?

I like to do a mental review of how productive each year has been for me. I think about what I did right to further my writing goals and maybe some of the things I could have done differently to improve my chances of attracting an agent or selling a story. But that doesn't mean I allow myself to be dragged down with self-doubt and insecurity where my writing is concerned. Looking back can be therapeutic just as long as you don't start walking in that direction!

Will you get caught up in what's happening today?

I'm putting a lot of pots on the fire in the new year. Between my full time job and my writing aspirations, things will hopping around here. I just finished PiBoIdMo and have more story ideas than I can shake a stick at. It's time to focus on today and see where it leads me.

Will you plan for your future?

I took time out to organize my writing goals for the new year. There are books I want to read to help improve my skills, revisions I have scheduled in my new Writer's Digest Weekly Planner, and contests I have my eye on with plans to participate. It's a brand new year with a clean slate and I'm eager to make my mark on it!

How will YOU greet the new year? Shall I raise my glass to the new you?

  1. Happy New Year! I do think it's important to look back and learn from mistakes, but I think it's equally important not to beat myself up for making those mistakes in the first place. Like you said, I don't want to move backwards! :)

  8. Raising my glass to you too, Donna. I am so proud of your commitment to your craft. I've stepped out on a limb and am diving head first into my writing for the new year. I've done something that I have not done before that will ensure that I don't chicken out on submitting and sharing my writing. So here's to bravery, commitment, and the continued inspiration of our community.
