Dipper's Strange New Friend
by Donna L Martin
Dipper's whiskers twitched as he sniffed the early Autumn air. Scritch, scratch went the dry leaves as his tail drew a trail along the forest floor. Dipper's whiskers twitched again. Jumping up and down, he quickly rubbed his front paws together. "Hmmm," he said. "I smell tasty mushrooms for breakfast!" Just ahead of him was a gathering of honey gold mushrooms. Mom warned him about straying too far from the safety of their nest, but Dipper's rumbly tummy soon made him forget his promise to stay close by.
Something slithered from behind a tree. Dipper squeaked in surprise when that same something raced through the dry leaves to stop in front of him and hissed, "Say the magic word!"
"Wh-what magic word?" Suddenly Dipper remembered his mother's warning.
A red tongue darted in and out of the strange creature's mouth as it stared at Dipper with its bright green eyes. "Why, everyone knows you need a magic word to go on a grand adventure!"
Dipper's whiskers twitched again, but this time it was for a different reason. He'd never seen anyone quite so tall before. He had never seen anyone move so fast through the leaves that they popped and crackled behind them. All he wanted to do was scurry back home but it was too late now.
"I-I don't know any magic words," Dipper replied.
Crackle, crackle went the leaves as the creature slithered closer to Dipper and said, "My name's Racer and I'm off on a grand adventure. You can always look for a magic word later. Want to come with me?"

"Yikes!" I'm outta here....
ReplyDeletelol. You realise Donna this would make a very very cute PB. Now if we can just get Dipper to learn that, Mother knows best...lol.
Love it.

Definitely saw the snake, but why not have them become friends and have lovely adventures together. Sort of like the fox and the hound! Then when they grow up and the dynamics change. Sorry, I didn't write anything, but I'm late, as always!
ReplyDeleteHi Yolanda! You might be just a wee bit late but you still gave me lots of lovely ideas...;~)
