CHILDREN'S FESTIVAL OF READING CROWD
Time flies by so quickly when you're having fun. Almost a year ago I hosted my first annual FREE AUTHORS PROMOTION in May during my city's Children's Festival of Reading. I reached out to authors around the country with the promise of promoting their lovely books in exchange for donated autographed items to include in my FREE GIVEAWAY to help benefit Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. You can read about the event by clicking on this link.. http://knoxrooms.sirsi.net/rooms/portal/page/21676_Childrens_Festival_of_Reading
Last year's event was a wonderful success with 350 autographed items given away!

And the number of items donated so far?
WOW...that's so amazing that so many have participated. I had no idea. So glad to be a part, Donna. Thanks for including me, and I hope you get tons of support for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library!

Hi Salina! I really am overwhelmed with gratitude for all the lovely authors (such as yourself) and illustrators who have been so generous with their donations for this event. I am honored to call many of them friends and I am tickled pink to be able to showcase their work to the thousands of potentially new fans that will be at the festival...;~)
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by and come back any time!
Did you hear my loud "Whoa-ho-ho-ho!" of joy when I read the number of items you already have for the event? This year's event is going to be even more fabulous than last year's! (and it was so cool to scroll down the list of authors and realize I "know" nearly all of them!)
ReplyDeleteDonna, you ROCK!
Hi Beth! I'm still getting things in almost daily...today I got some signed books and bookmarks from a local author (Jennifer Madison); lovely books, posters, and bookmarks from an Ireland author (Helena Duggan); and postcards from author Gillian Neimark and some more emails from other authors sending things soon...
DeleteLol...I don't know if I ROCK, but I plan to ROLL on over to the festival next month for some fun...:~)
Thanks for stopping by and come back any time!
What a great idea, introducing the young to the world of books, wish mine were appropriate.
ReplyDeleteYes, Donna, you Rock!
Hi Yolanda! It's my wish to showcase as many lovely authors as possible at my booth and this was the best way I could think of to give back to this wonderful writing community...
DeleteThanks for stopping by and come back any time!
I want to go there! :D
ReplyDeleteYes. Erik, you do. We tell everyone about your blog and everyone is always impressed.
DeleteHi Erik! What Janet forgot to say is that they also loved your autographed tshirts! :~)
DeleteThanks for stopping by and come back any time!
Hi Donna .. it does sound such an excellent idea .. can I send you some of Nick Wilford's Overcoming Adversity anthology ... it's helping Nick - as well as your efforts ..
ReplyDeleteI keep thinking it's Reading (town) here!
Cheers Hilary
Hi Hilary! I would be honored to include Nick's book with the others but I would need to know that HE wants to participate in this event. Are the books autographed? I can send my mailing address if he wants to join the fun...

Hi Donna,
ReplyDeleteI am still quietly confident I can provide you with some material for your festival even though things have been delayed a little. The main problem was the number of typos I found on the proof reading (53 in the manuscript and 1 on the cover) but this has now been resolved and the book is in production. I will keep you posted.
Thanks, JP, for the update but I'm wondering where your blog went? It ran away again...;~)...did you shut it down?
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by and come back any time!
I did delete it Donna. I have been getting enquiries and requests for articles. In addition the press releases are imminent. The first book was not written with the intention of publication so as can be imagined I went about it the wrong way and don't feel I did the story or the intent justice.
DeleteThe second book I have addressed differently and on the offchance it stimulates interest I felt it was time to 'grow up' as a writer and take a more professional approach. Consequently the blog is a necessary casualty. I will be doing away with blogger and am currently in the process of creating a .com website which will be launched at the same time as the book (hopefully within the next two weeks). I will keep you updated. In addition to the signed copies I send I also have a range of marketing products (stress balls, t-shirts, pens, etc.) which I will try to include but am restricted to a 2kg parcel. The postage takes a week so I am optimistic I can still get them to you before the festival.
Hi JP! Thanks for the update. I just didn't want to lose contact with you...;~)
DeleteThanks for stopping by and come back any time!
This is amazing, Donna. You have done such a great job of getting the word out and gathering these items. I have no doubt that your participation in the festival will be a big success.
ReplyDeleteThanks Alayne...I just wish I could do more but hopefully this event will help drive sales for all the wonderful authors who chose to participate...;~)
