Flash Fiction Friday

A Thousand Years
by Donna L Martin

A thousand years.  That's how long Logan told her their love would last.  For as long as the old yew tree stood just inside the castle gate.  But he never warned her about the price to be paid for the wishing of it.  Never warned her about the undeniable thirst driving her to search the night like a wild animal.

She should have known there was something unnatural about Logan when she first met him all those centuries ago.  Twirling ball gowns and elegant gentlemen in dapper suits moved across the dance hall floor, but there was something special about him.  Something mystical in the way his spirit called to her until she felt herself crossing the room to be by his side.

"You are not like the others," she could hear him whisper in her ear.  "I have waited a long time for you to come to me and now we will be together for a thousand years."

She giggled at first, feeling the blush rise up to stain her cheeks.  She should have broken the light hold he had on her wrist, should have returned to her guardian's side, but one look into Logan's eyes and she knew he spoke the truth about those years.  And like a fool she believed him...

***Okay, it's your turn!  What happens next?  Where is Logan?  How did they survive the years and where are they now? Put your creative cap on and add a sentence or add a paragraph. Continue my story or start one of your own.  Join the fun and see where this picture prompt takes us!***

  1. This is Cinderella and the prince (Logan). They are immortal. The thousand years are up. :)

    1. Hi Erik! Ahhh, yes, the thousand years are up but what happens then? Do they finally die? Maybe turn back into human beings? ;~)

Thanks for stopping by and come back any time!

  2. Hmm. The "undeniable thirst" in the night sounds to me a lot like she's turned into a vampire. Maybe 1000 years is the vampire average life span and after that they're just so sick of it they commit suicide.

    1. Hi Colleen and welcome to my blog! When I think about your ending, it makes me sad...;~(...maybe they reincarnate like the Buddhas believe and come back as butterflies? ;~)

Thanks for stopping by and come back any time!

  3. Yeah, the thirst in the night had me thinking of vampires, too. Maybe after 1,000 years they get to choose between signing on for another 1,000 years or becoming mortal again, where they will age and die.

    1. Hi Cindy! I'm thinking if I've lived a thousand years, I would probably choose to return to being a mortal and living a normal life for once...:~)

  4. I'm afraid fantasy is my achilles heel, my idea was to go with Robin Hood (the yew tree was used for making bows) but I have a weeks worth of comments to reply to :P

What date do you have for your Reading Festival this year?

  5. Don't worry, JP...science fiction is mine...lol...you still could have gone with the Robin Hood idea, even started a new story and then maybe I would be the one to follow in YOUR footsteps...;~)
