Flash Fiction Friday

Match of the Century
By: Donna L Martin

The match of the century, everyone said.
Goliath over Davey by more than a head.
But little Davey knew how this usually goes
As he led with his left and his lightening fast toes.
And then with a jump side kick that dazzled and dazed
As it left poor Goliath with eyes a bit glazed,
Friends started asking how he did it with such ease?
“It’s really no secret, I just eat my wheaties!”

***I ran this piece last year just as a lark...now it's your turn.  What happens next?  Does Goliath come after Davey?  Does the match of the century come down to just one kick?  Try your hand at rhyming and maybe improve my meter...;~)  Join the fun with a sentence or a paragraph.  You don't have to run with my flash fiction...if someone else comments and you want to add to their story, then go for it.  Let's see where this picture prompt takes us!***

  2. The picture shows exactly how I saw it when I read the poem.

  3. Goliath rose up, hands holding his head
'Where am I?' he asked, 'I thought I was dead'
'You could have been' Davey said gloating
When Goliath pulled a gun he had been toting
Davey looked scared, he turned and ran
'Wheaties?" asked Goliath 'sure they weren't bran?'
All agreed when Davey had swiftly departed
It sounded to them as though he had......

(couldn't for the life of me think of a word to complete the rhyme)

  4. Nope. Can't do it. I forfeit. I like actual paragraph-y writing. Rhyming is too hard! ;)

    1. Hi Erik! Sometimes my stories come to me in rhyme...sometimes they come in prose, but thank God they come!

    2. I have always been fond of limericks this is my favourite.....

There was a young man from Japan,
Whose writing was hard to scan,
      When I asked why,
      He gave the reply,
It's because I always try and fit as many words into the last line as I possibly can.

    3. Lol...I think I know some writers out there (and sometimes myself) who do the same thing!
