Ragu Your Work






My TaeKwonDo school is on a mission to get healthier.  We have a friendly competition going on against another school in our organization.  I've named our team the TKD Transformers and as of yesterday, the team of about ten people has lost around 63 pounds in just three weeks,

For medical reasons I need to get slimmer and I'm happy to report I made up 12 pounds of those hard earned numbers. There are no magic pills to take or incantations to recite...just common sense combined with a good foundation of sound nutrition.  And most of you who know me, KNOW I can create a good analogy to writing with just about anything.  Maybe I should start asking people to leave a comment giving me a topic to compare to writing? Lol...for those of you new to my blog...check out my older posts and you will quickly see what I mean.






I was thinking today about how writing and revising are very much like starting a good diet.   Both dieters and writers look at the overall picture of what they are working with.  They think about ways to trim the "fat" from things and introduce "lighter" versions while hoping the end result will still be as appealing as the original.  Some times too much is cut out and it leaves a bad taste in your mouth.  

But if you work hard and stay focused on what your end goal should be, the results can be amazing...

  1. Well done on the weight loss! Congrats to all of you for taking control. I'm dieting, too. I'm at 8 pounds for 19 days - my goal is 9 pounds in 3 weeks:) I'm not counting calories, just eating less and moving more. Something that helps me is that when you cup your hands together like you're drinking water? That's how big your stomach is! So you know you shouldn't eat more than that:)

  2. Nice job losing weight and inspiring healthy habits. Trimming fat is difficult in diets AND in edits (which are anagrams of each other, BTW).

    Did I need to see that picture of pasta? No I didn't. Now pasta is all I can think about!!

  3. I'm having spaghetti tonight. I am a pasta hog. But I have learned moderation. Just recently, that is. I'm not sure if I am at any fat trimming stage of my writing. i have to actually write it first.

    1. Awww, thanks Susanna! I'm taking it one day at a time. I am using an iPhone app called myfitnesspal.com and I LOVE IT!!! I spend MAYBE 5 minutes a day listing what I eat or do for exercise and the program literally does EVERYTHING else...tracks calories, exercise, nutrients breakdown, lets me know what I have left, retains all my food options so I just need to check them off when I eat them again, has a 1 million food base and hundrens of exercises including TaeKwonDo...it even tells me where I will be in 5 weeks if I stick with it. It guarantees I will lose 2 pounds a week if I just follow the app and so far it's been right...lol...
