When I was growing up, I use to love watching Dudley Do-Right of The Rocky and Bullwinkle show. Each episode had all the earmarks of a great story. You had the damsel in distress who usually ended up tied to the train tracks every now and again. Then you had the white steed to carry in the dashing hero, Dudley, just in time to save the girl. And you had Snidely Whiplash...the meanest, orneriest villain north of the Mason-Dixon. You knew him by name. But I bet you didn't know you could have called him by another name as well...Rampallion...which means scoundrel or villain. In my latest young adult historical fantasy story I am working on, I have a hero...one you wouldn't normally visualize as one, and I have a villain just as dastardly as Snidely here...now I just have to find my own Dudley and my story will be complete...

This is the second post I've seen that mentions Rocky and Bullwinkle (and all their friends). I didn't know the word 'Rampallion' but you can believe I'll be making use of it from now on. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteOh how I loved that show! I especially loved the little boy and the dog that would travel back into time...can't think of their names right now but I couldn't wait to see where they would go to next...;0)...oh yeah, Mr. Peabody...
DeleteThanks for stopping by and come back any time!
LOL I modelled myself on Dick Dastardly - or was it Muttley?
ReplyDeleteHi JP! I loved Muttley too! I really can't remember any characters on that show that I didn't enjoy watching...they must have had some great writers back then...or maybe the children just weren't as "sophisticated" in their television viewing as kids today...;0)

I loved this show!! Thanks for reminding me.
ReplyDeleteHi, Sheri! I couldn't WAIT for this show to come on when I was growing up! So well written...and can you remember the fractured tales and the man who used to sweep things up and Bullwinkle trying to pull a rabbit out of that hat? So many good memories of that show...;0)

I was also thinking of Dick Dastardly on Wacky Races. And Penelope Pitstop. I'm more of a rapscallion, myself. But ramppallion is good, too.
ReplyDeleteHi, Janet! I remember them too...what great kid's shows back then...

I used to love Rocky and Bullwinkle, especially Sherman and Mr. Peabody, Fractured Fairy Tales, and Bullwinkle's Mr. Know-it-All.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the smile and the great memories!
Hi, Chris! THAT'S IT! I couldn't remember Sherman's name...lol...I think I need to see if the old shows are playing on Retro TV...;0)

Hi Donna .. I love the villain - these aren't shows we had in England - and if they were I don't remember them!! Cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteOoo I love the word Rampallion. I need to work that into one of my stories. Love Marla's roller coaster book too!
ReplyDeleteHi Julie! I would love to see what you would do with that word...;-)

Hi Donna, I'm stopping in from the A to Z Challenge. Ah, this post bought back a lot of wonderful memories for me. I loved watching Dastardly Dan and that laugh of Mutley's, who could ever forget about that. I also love the word "Rampallion" which I had never heard of before. So I have learnt something new today. Thank you. Have a great weekend, KC
ReplyDeleteHi, KC, and welcome to my blog! I just don't feel like they make quality cartoons like that one any more...

LOL-I can't look at that pic without thinking of Dan Wells, who uses it as his twitter avatar. :)
ReplyDeleteHi, Robin! I liked the villain but I sometimes wondered if the girl wasnt actually the smartest one of the bunch...;-)

Nice post. It brought back memories. You are right...this show had the earmarks of a great story. And I learned a new word. Short, but fun post!
ReplyDeleteHi, Holly...glad you liked the post. My usual posts are a bit longer but the suggestion for this A to Z Challenge was to keep the posts short and sweet so I'm trying to do that...;-)

What is your rampallion's name?
ReplyDeleteHI, Julie! Right now his name is Lord Shamar but that might change before I'm through with the story...lol...
