Follow That Rainbow

I have been fascinated with rainbows all my life.  Rainbows pop up when you least expect it and bring with them such magical inspiration that you can't help but be moved by their beauty.

Judy Garland knew about the wonder of rainbows.  She even sang about it in The Wizard Of Oz and reminded us that something special lies beyond the rainbow's end.  Maybe that is where all my "unborn" children's books are playing until I bring them back to Earth?

There are different types and colors of rainbows.  I feel a restless energy when I look at this one.  As if I can't get to my computer quickly enough and let the words spill out onto the screen.  There is a sense of urgency to create magic and I want to be a part of it!

But what about this rainbow?  The calming greens and blues inspire me to take a moment and reflect.  To wait quietly for those shy stories to come to me with their words of wisdom.  I have all the time in the world to look at rainbows.

If I'm lucky enough, I will be surprised by twice the beauty.  Two rainbows side by side challenge me to gather all the creative parts of me together in one place.  To channel all that energy into my best possible work.  Ah yes, rainbows are our little nudges on that path to publication.

But what about the rumors where pots of gold wait for us at the end of those rainbows?  The mystics have it all wrong.  There's no gold there...only wonderful books full of the magic created from deep within us.  And that is worth more than anything mere money can buy.

Or, maybe it's just all in my head and television has the answer to where rainbows really come from...

  2. As an illustrator I've had to create images of rainbows many times, and I can say from experience that rainbows are not easy to depict. Keeping the colors bright and translucent, with one color softly merging into the next without becoming muddy, can be a trial.

  3. I love rainbows too and the wonderment of what's "over" there at the end, but I love full moons even more!

    1. Mona, I more drawn to full moons than rainbows but it might be because astrologically I am a "moon child" (Cancer)...could be why I am so drawn to the sea as well since the sign for Cancer is the crab...;0)

Thanks for stopping by and come back any time!
