Change Is Scary

Changes can be scary.  As adults we are supposed to be able to handle anything.  But life changes can come along and throw us for a loop.  When I got divorced I had to deal with a lot of changes.  Going from the idea of spending the rest of your life with someone to suddenly being a single parent of a small child is a scary change.  When I lost my good paying job, I wondered what I would do.   When I finally found another one for $30,000 per year less, it was a scary change.  We all have things that happen to us in life to bring about change and it's how we deal with it that determines the person we truly are inside.

We might want to act like the ostrich and bury our heads in the sand but that isn't going to do much good.  The changes are still going to be out there and we either can deal with them as they come along or be buried by them and not just our heads!  I might be scared about something coming my way but I'm not going to let it stop me from reaching my goals.  I might have to turn to my friends for support as I ride that wave of scary change, but I refuse to let it defeat me.

Today I decided to make some changes to my blog.  Nothing earth shattering or even note worthy in the grand scheme of things but to me it's important.  And scary.  I was comfortable with the way my blog looked.  I was happy with the layout and the colors.  But scary changes don't have to be a BAD thing and as I worked on my blog today I actually began to like the changes I was making.  I'm sorry to say my little fishies didn't survive the change...for some reason the animation wouldn't work with this new format.  I hope my readers will enjoy the new look, and while there might be a few more tweaks before it's all over, for now I hope you will all join me in a little happy dance...

    1. Thanks, Diane! I did a lot of tweaking last night and when I came across the world map I KNEW I had my new format. Then it was just a matter of working with colors and fonts to get it looking so cool... ;-)

  5. I'm sorry you had to let go of your beloved rain on the windowpane, but I have to say, this looks really nice! It's clean and clear, much easier to read! And I see you took some of Laura's other advice to heart, changing your profile info. I think you did a great job! (Not to say I won't like something else equally if you play around with it some more :))

  7. I do like it! Nice choice of colors. I like the clean look. I do visit some blogs that are very distracting....they have too much going on. This is very inviting.

  9. I will miss the fish. But I am glad you kept the pictures. And the new colors do make it easier on these old eyes.

    1. I'm glad you like it, Janet. I will try again to see if I can bring the fishies back but the pixels went haywire when I tried to load them.

Thanks for stopping by and come back any time!

  10. I am a new follower, but somehow I read Laura's critique of your blog without seeing your actual blog! Anyway, I think it looks great, very clear and uncluttered. Change is a bit scary but worth the risk. I am in awe that you blog every day and yet haven't been blogging very long! Looking forward to reading more :)

    1. Hi, Claire, and welcome! My other format was darker, more crowded and I was having trouble with people being able to read the comments because I couldn't change the color to darker. My concern was that my readers would prefer I give all my pictures I put in my blog and since I am a "visual" writer I needed those prompts to help the creative juices...lol...

Other people have made comments about my daily challenge to post but I read somewhere if I do 365 blog posts in one year then there will be many opportunties out there for people to find me in the Blogosphere. What the article failed to say was that I had to add lables to my posts so I have to go back to the beginning and add all the labels so that they will pull up in a search...;-)

Thanks for stopping by and come back any time!

  11. Oh, YES! Where's the "two thumbs up" emoticon? So much easier to read, and lets us focus on what's truly important -- your posts. The world map is much more illustrative of being on the write track (sorry you had to say goodbye to your raindrops, but this is, as someone said, so classy.) And I so appreciate being able to read the comments easily! The wider post area makes the posts much easier to read, as well.

I'll miss the fishies, but I understand.

Good for you for being willing to embrace change! You're going places, lady, on the write track!

    1. I actually thought of YOU, Beth, the whole time I was tweaking this thing last night. Lol...

I like the look of this one much better actually...I may still try to bring back the fishies but they may just have gone on a permanent fishy vacation...;-)

Thanks for stopping by and come back any time!

  13. Change is also that stuff that falls out of people's pockets that I often pick up because I look down a lot whenever I'm walking...lol...thanks, Morgan for your kind words.

    1. Thanks, Jarm, for your kind words. I am so pleased that everyone so far seems to like it...I'm quite happy with the end result myself! I might be doing some other tweaking...thinking about trying to add a page or two and try to make it more like a "website" if I can but for now I am happy.

Thanks for stopping by and come back any time!

  17. Donna, your readers have already said it all, but this looks great! I love the roominess and your header does tie in to your title. It's beautifully done. And, as I had suspected, your posts don't seem as long with the extra room. I hope you enjoy it!

    1. Thank you, Laura, for both your kind words and all your input from Monday's blog critique. If it wasn't for your advice and thoughtful comments, I might not have re-evaluated how I saw my blog. I wanted it to have a "professional" feel to it, but not lose the essential style that is my own. I think I have accomplished that and it is due, at least in part, to you so I thank you!

Thanks for stopping by and come back any time!
