What's In A Name?

When I returned to writing after 20 years of silence, there were many new things for me to learn.  One of them was how to create this blog.  Not being a technical minded person, it took me a few days to figure things out...actually I accidently hit the wrong key on my keyboard and it somehow instantly gave me an account on Blogger so I thought what the heck?  (True story)

I thought about the fact that it was a new point in my life, in my writing "career" so I chose New Beginnings as my blog name.  I wanted to offer some encouragement to my fellow newbies by maybe reminding them about things "writerly" as they travel their own writer's path.

I wanted to display a distinct voice so I could be heard among all the other wonderful blogs out there.  But I also wanted to strike a balance between being loud and being obnoxious.  It's the same with writing stories.  Finding that curious balance of creating something somewhere between wonderful and whatever.

I started getting followers and people started commenting on the fact that my daily posts were both helpful and encouraging.  I was proud to be part of a writing community that helped to lift each other's spirits and cheered them on through either good or bad times.

I realized that I was indeed ON THE WRITE TRACK and decided to change my blog name.  I think it suits me.  I'm kinda like that little engine that thought he could make it up that hill despite any obstacles which lay before him.

Slow steps at first.  Getting help along the way from new friends from the writing community.  So much knowledge to soak in, so many bonds to form and people to cheer for along my own path to publication. But again, I must be ON THE WRITE TRACK, because I can feel myself picking up speed.  Like that little engine, I just keep saying to myself, "I know I can, I know I can, I know I can!"

So what's in a name?  Everything!  I am a writer, I am a blogger,  I am a creator of magic on paper and there is no one else quite like me.  Except for maybe YOU!  Wear that name of writer proudly.  Shout it out loudly that what you do is as important as anyone else's career.  Maybe more so when you realize there are few jobs out there which wield the power to change the world...one child at a time.  So put out your sign and WRITE!

  1. The beginning of your blog seemed like a going out of business sign. I'm glad I kept reading. Whew!! A name change. Okay, I get it. I know what to look for now. Don't stop writing this blog!

    1. Thanks, Janet, for stopping by.

I re-read my post and can see where one might get that impression...hadn't thought of that when I was typing furiously at the keyboard at 6:30 this morning. If there is one thing I am NOT, that is a quitter. No, I realized that I'm a bit farther along than just "new beginnings"...that will do it to you when you write every day...lol.

I have a file with at least 25 or so blog post ideas just waiting for me to use and I add to it almost every day so it's not very likely that I will stop doing this any time soon...;0)

      Come back any time!

  2. Cool! I am so glad to hear your comment about not stopping anytime soon.....yay! I like the name, it's you, firmly moving forward, gliding around each bend as it comes. Yes you are unique alright, and I like it. I think my blog name is me.... yes, I think so.

(I have been attempting to comment on your previous post but gave up after the 4th time....using someone else's laptop can do that at times..) Anyway it was an enjoyable post, just thought I would mention.

    1. Thank you, Julie...I SO enjoy doing this blog...and it only takes about an hour to do, so I have been setting my alarm at 6 each morning so I can work on it before I have to head to work.

  4. Your name change gets my thumbs-up, too. Much more indicative of your blog's purpose, and of you in your writing journey.

  5. Lol...Beth, that is too cool with your "all aboarrrd!" It certainly gives me a "warm, fuzzy feeling" to know that at least one person out there is enjoying my blog. If that one person tells one person and then they tell one person...well, you do the math...pretty soon my little train would be full!

Thanks for stopping by and come back any time!
