Bring On The Rain

Life is not always full of warm, sunny days.  Sometimes rain clouds gather on the horizon and lightening fills the sky.  How I see myself as a writer determines how I handle the incoming storm.

There are days when I walk through a gentle rain.  My writing comes easily and the words flow smoothly across the screen as my thoughts become stories.  No obstacles stand in my way, and I can claim the day as a victorious one.

But then there are days when I'm caught in a downpour of epic proportions.  Deadlines are staring me in the face,  my stories just don't seem to jell, and my thoughts are so jumbled I wonder if I will ever be able to write again.  The self-induced pressure of being a writer hovers over me and I would easily give in to it if I didn't believe in this life I've chosen for myself.

So I take the time to gather my thoughts.  Maybe visit some of my favorite blogs like www.thecreativepenn.com or www.darcypattison.com to help me find creative ways to get past my writing obstacles.  I take the time to embrace the rain and look for the lessons it is trying to teach me.

Maybe the storm is just giving me a chance to stop and embrace all the fun that comes with being a writer.  Writers have the chance to create our own destiny with our words and we can be as mighty or as meek as we chose.

For myself, I say bring on the rain.  Let it soak me with all the wildness that nature has in store for me and let me pour that restless energy into all of my stories until they overflow with LIFE!

After the rain is most surely a rainbow waiting to happen.  That light at the end of my dark writing tunnel to remind me there is a prize to be had if you are a writer.  For even when I am no longer around, at least people can say I was passionate about my writing...even if they don't agree with what I have written.

Splashing in puddles and turning our faces to the rain, and glorying in the writing process. Thanks again for the daily dose of inspiration. Now I need to *DO* something with that inspiration.

  3. Thanks, Beth, for stopping by. Sometimes I think it's funny that I'm basically saying the same thing...just in a different way each day...lol...

  4. Beautiful! I love writing about rain. :-)

SIDENOTE: On the Comment a Day challenge, your blog link is broken. It has an added html after the last slash. If someone doesn't understand URL's they won't know to remove it to get here. :-)

Every writer has those days, but if you keep pushing forward like you're doing, I'm sure you'll be successful. :)

  8. Donna - I've been exploring your blog all morning and I love it. You have such a unique and witty perspective on the things all writers go through. As today is a rainy day for me (literally and figuratively), I had to pause at this post and comment. What a great reminder.

  11. aww, what a sweet inspiring post. I really like it. I just posted something similar over at my writing blog; funnily enough I was looking for nature photos for the post and stumbled across your similar post. You worded it in a much more heartfelt way than me.

I am happy to have found another writer online, and I am eager to check out your favorite writing sites, since I've never heard of them! Do you ever visit Writer Unboxed? that's my favorite, so far.
