Have you ever noticed how much counting down we do?
Children do it.
If you don't believe me, just remember back to earlier this month when your child was counting down the days until the guy in the red suit leaves them presents under the tree. In fact, they are probably already counting down the days until he returns.
Teenagers do it.
This group counts down the days until they can get their driver's license, until they graduate, until they move out of the house, etc. They probably count down more than any other group. Probably because they have the biggest amount of dreams with the smallest amount of patience.
Adults do it.
Some of you are doing it right now. Counting down the minutes until lunch time so you can have a break from a tedious job. Counting down the hours until closing time and you can get back home to your family. Counting down the days until it's vacation time. By the time we are adults, we have fine tuned the art of counting down.
Writers do it, too.
Right now, some of us are counting down to the kick off of Julie Hedlund's 12 X 12 in 2012 Picture Book Writing Challenge. A chance to write 12 first drafts (one a month) over the next year as a continuation of all the great work done during Tara Lazar's PiBoIdMo challenge this past November. Writers all around the country are looking through their PB ideas and counting down the "best of the best" to work on in 2012. Gathering their thoughts as well as writing materials as they count down the minutes until the new year rings in and their own race begins.
Well, all I've got to say to anyone that is busy counting down to a new year of new beginnings and new discoveries is...COUNT ME IN!
And if you would like to have a chance to WIN some cool writing reference books to help with the 12 X 12 challenge or anything else you might be working on in 2012, why not hop over to my blog from yesterday ( http://donasdays.blogspot.com/2011/12/new-yeara-new-easy-contest.html ) and enter to win some great prizes in an easy contest!
Count me in, too! Thanks for reminding me what I can do while waiting for the technical glitches in my new-blog-setup to resolve themselves. *Beth heads over to rummage through her PiBoIdMo file and make sure the 12x12 file is ready to go* I'm definitely counting down the minutes until 12 x 12 starts!
ReplyDelete(Love the photo illustrating today's post!)

ReplyDeleteI'm counting the days, too, Donna! I've been so impressed with how quickly and well you have developed your blog. That's my dream for the new year...good job!
ReplyDeleteCount me in, too!!! Loving your cheerful posts, Donna :)
ReplyDeleteAnd me to....
ReplyDeleteThanks, Beth, for stopping by! Sorry you are having trouble with your new blog...here's crossing my fingers that things work out real soon (especially since it's quite challenging to type with crossed fingers!). Yeah, I need to grab my own notebook and get organized myself!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Julie! I'm glad there are only 12 months in a year...I might not have found time for the 13th month! Lol...
ReplyDeleteThank you, Natalie, for your kind words! There has always been a part of me that loves to help motivate others and what better way than through my blog? Happy New Year to you too!
ReplyDeleteHi, Jarm! Thanks for stopping by and I'm simply blushing from all the compliments I've been getting lately! ;0)
ReplyDeleteI try to write my blog like I talk in real life and I hope that comes across. My blogs are a reminder to myself as well as others to never stop, to keep on trying and to remember how unique we all are...every one of us has a story to tell...it's just up to us to send it out into the world and let it fly!
Thanks Susanna and Diane for your support! I will continue to send out daily blog posts until I have nothing more to say...yeah, like THAT'S gonna be any time soon...lol...
ReplyDeleteI'm having so much fun with this and I only hope others will be drawn to my blog so that maybe they too will be encouraged to keep on keeping on...
Count me in too. I enjoy your uplifting posts!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Patricia! If you plan on giving a "shout out" about my blog, please be sure and put a comment on the contest post and let me know what social media you used so I can add your name to the drawing! Happy New Year to you...
ReplyDeleteYay for 12x12. Oh, and you post made me laugh. My six-year-old is the master of counting. We gave him a watch for his birthday and he likes to keep us all informed in in-line with the time. I think he must be part German-Shepard.
ReplyDeleteYou have now proven my point exactly, Hannah...lol...
